O navio Roll-on Roll-off (RoRo) Torino, da companhia de navegação Wallenius Wilhelmsen, atracou na última quarta-feira, 4, no berço dois do Porto Novo, cais público do Porto do Rio Grande. Oriunda do Porto de Zarate, na Argentina, a embarcação fez escala na cidade para o embarque de cargas rodantes, entre elas carros, tratores e ônibus.

A operação de embarque foi realizada ao longo do dia e concluída na madrugada de quinta-feira, 5. Foram movimentados 1.200 veículos da marca Chevrolet Onix, que possuem como destino o Porto de Cartagena, na Colômbia, dois ônibus no formato PKD para o México, e 41 tratores, sendo 30 deles para o Porto de Tacoma, nos Estados Unidos, e 11 para a Colômbia.

O ano de 2022 tem se mostrado bastante promissor para a movimentação de cargas rodantes no Porto do Rio Grande. Entre embarques e desembarques realizados de janeiro a junho de 2021, foram 4.552 unidades, enquanto que apenas no período de três meses de 2022 já foram movimentadas 6.377 unidades.

A resposta para esse aumento se deve ao incremento de cargas que originalmente embarcavam em contêineres e que por falta de fretes ou equipamentos, gerados pelo impacto global da pandemia, acabaram migrando para os navios de carga geral ou RoRo para que os contratos pudessem ser cumpridos em tempo hábil.
